Three compounds, each of which reaches the nervous system by a different road.
L-Taurine (200 mg) is a sulfonic amino acid, unusual in that it is never built into protein. It floats free, in high concentration, in the brain, retina, and heart, where it helps regulate cell volume and calcium handling and acts on GABA-A and glycine receptors.
L-Theanine (100 mg) is the amino acid that gives green tea its savory undertone. Japanese researchers isolated it from gyokuro leaves in 1949 and named it for the plant. It crosses the blood-brain barrier and is associated in EEG studies with increased alpha-wave activity — the pattern of wakeful, unhurried attention.
GABA (100 mg) is the brain's principal inhibitory neurotransmitter. Taken orally it crosses the blood-brain barrier poorly, which is worth saying plainly; its effects are thought to run partly through the enteric nervous system and the vagus.
Together they are used to support a normal, settled state of mind and the body's ordinary transition toward rest. No sedation, no morning residue.
60 capsules. Hypoallergenic, no diluents or binders.
