D-Ribose (Pure Granular Powder)

Ribose is the sugar in the backbone of RNA — the R in the acronym — and the sugar at the center of ATP, the molecule every cell in the body spends to do anything at all. It is a five-carbon sugar, and unlike glucose it is not primarily a fuel. It is a building material.

The body synthesizes ribose through the pentose phosphate pathway, but that route is slow, and it is the rate-limiting step in rebuilding the adenine nucleotide pool after that pool has been drawn down — which happens in tissues doing sustained work, particularly heart and skeletal muscle. Supplemental D-ribose bypasses the bottleneck, supplying the pentose directly for normal nucleotide synthesis and supporting the body's normal replenishment of ATP.

It tastes faintly sweet and dissolves cleanly in water or juice. It is a sugar, so people managing blood glucose should discuss it with their clinician; large amounts on an empty stomach can lower blood sugar transiently.
