Chew a raw broccoli floret and you begin a small chemical reaction. Damaged plant tissue releases myrosinase, which cleaves glucobrassicin into indole-3-carbinol; in the acid of the stomach, two molecules of indole-3-carbinol condense into one of diindolylmethane. DIM, in other words, is not really a plant compound. It is what the plant compound becomes once it meets you.
Because that conversion is variable — dependent on how the vegetable was grown, cut, cooked, and digested — supplying DIM directly removes a great deal of guesswork. Di-Indole-Methane provides 50 mg per capsule.
DIM's role is in phase I and phase II hepatic biotransformation, the two-stage system by which the liver modifies and conjugates compounds for excretion. It is used to support normal estrogen metabolism, favoring the 2-hydroxy pathway over the 16-alpha pathway, and to support the body's normal detoxification enzymes. Both men and women use it for this reason.
It is worth being plain: DIM is a metabolic modulator, not a supplement you feel. Its effects are measured in laboratory ratios, not sensations.
Available in 120 capsules. Hypoallergenic, with no diluents, binders, or fillers.
