Most fish oil is not concentrated. A standard 1,000 mg softgel typically carries 180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA — less than a third of the capsule is the thing you came for. The rest is other fatty acids and oil.
EPA-625 is concentrated. Each softgel supplies 625 mg of EPA and 245 mg of DHA, which means fewer capsules for the same intake, and less oxidizable filler oil riding along with them.
The ratio is deliberate. EPA and DHA do different work. DHA is largely structural — it is the most abundant long-chain fatty acid in neuronal and retinal membranes, and it makes them fluid. EPA is largely signaling: it is the substrate for the series-3 eicosanoids and for the resolvins, the lipid mediators that participate in bringing the body's normal inflammatory response back to baseline. A formula weighted toward EPA is weighted toward that second role.
Both are essential. The body converts them from plant-derived ALA at a conversion rate that is, in most adults, poor.
90 softgels. Hypoallergenic, no diluents or binders.
