Iron is dangerous loose and useful stored. Every organism that uses it has solved this problem the same way: with ferritin, a hollow protein shell that sequesters iron atoms in a mineral core and releases them on demand. It is an enormous molecule by nutritional standards, with a molecular weight around 445,000, and it is the form in which your own body banks the iron it is not currently using.
This product supplies iron in that native form rather than as an inorganic salt. Each capsule provides 5 mg of iron as ferritin, naturally isolated from bovine spleen. Iron is required for the formation of hemoglobin and for the normal transport of oxygen in the blood, and it plays a role in energy metabolism.
The reason to use the protein rather than a salt is tolerability. Ferrous sulfate and similar forms are absorbed through a pathway that leaves a great deal of unabsorbed iron in the gut, which is where the familiar gastrointestinal complaints come from. Ferritin is taken up differently, and is well tolerated by people who cannot manage conventional iron. Free of corn, soy, yeast, wheat, and other common allergens.
60 capsules, 5 mg iron each.
