Flax is one of the oldest domesticated plants — spun into linen in the Fertile Crescent, pressed for oil in medieval Europe, and grown by Charlemagne under decree because he thought his subjects should eat it. The seed is roughly forty percent oil, and about half of that oil is alpha-linolenic acid.

ALA is an essential omega-3 fatty acid, meaning the body cannot synthesize it and must take it in. It is a structural component of cell membranes and a precursor from which the body can elongate the longer-chain omega-3s, though that conversion is inefficient in most people — a limit worth knowing rather than glossing over. Flax also supplies omega-6 linoleic acid. Together these support normal cardiovascular function and help maintain healthy skin.

The real problem with flax oil is that it oxidizes. Polyunsaturated bonds are fragile, and rancid oil is worse than no oil. This formula uses only fresh, organic-source flax oil in a light-protected softgel for that reason. Keep it cool.

Free of corn, soy, yeast, wheat, egg, and other common allergens.
