Inflazyme (Bromelain 500 mg)

Bromelain is the proteolytic enzyme complex of the pineapple, Ananas comosus. It is concentrated not in the fruit but in the stem — the hard core that is usually thrown away — which is why it took until 1891 for a chemist to characterize it and until the 1950s for anyone to think of taking it deliberately. Anyone who has eaten too much fresh pineapple and felt their tongue go raw has met bromelain directly. It digests protein.

Inflazyme supplies 500 mg of high-potency bromelain per capsule.

Taken with food, a proteolytic enzyme does the obvious thing: it assists the normal breakdown of dietary protein. Taken away from food, on an empty stomach, a portion is absorbed intact, and it is in this second use that bromelain has been studied most — for its role in supporting the body's normal inflammatory response, healthy joint and muscle comfort after exertion, and normal tissue recovery. The timing determines which job you are asking it to do.
