Inosine is a nucleoside — the pairing of the purine base hypoxanthine with a ribose sugar. It sits at a crossroads in purine metabolism, the pathway by which the body builds, recycles, and eventually disposes of the nucleotides that make up DNA, RNA, and ATP. Cells generate it constantly as part of ordinary nucleotide turnover.
Its most cited role is in the salvage pathway. Building purines from scratch is metabolically expensive; recovering them from breakdown products is cheap. Inosine feeds that salvage route, and in doing so participates in the regeneration of adenine nucleotides — the ATP that powers essentially everything a cell does. This is why inosine has drawn attention from people interested in cellular energy metabolism and exercise physiology, and why the evidence there remains mixed rather than settled. It is a real physiological agent with a real role; it is not a shortcut.
Each capsule supplies 500 mg. Free of corn, soy, yeast, wheat, and other common food allergens.
Caution: Inosine is metabolized to uric acid. If you are pregnant or nursing, or have a history of kidney stones or gout, consult a physician before use.
