Glutamine is the most abundant free amino acid in the human body — roughly half of the total free amino acid pool in muscle and plasma. It is classed as non-essential, meaning the body can synthesize it, but that classification is misleading. Under physical stress, demand can outrun synthesis, and glutamine becomes what physiologists call conditionally essential. The body then does something telling: it breaks down skeletal muscle to get more.

Its uses are unusually varied for a single molecule. Glutamine is the preferred metabolic fuel of the enterocytes lining the small intestine, which draw on it directly rather than on glucose, and it plays a role in maintaining the normal integrity of the intestinal barrier. It is a nitrogen shuttle between tissues, a precursor for glutathione synthesis, and a substrate for the cells of the immune system, which turn over quickly and consume it accordingly.

It is used to support normal gut lining integrity, healthy immune function, and normal recovery from exertion.

Only the purest form of the amino acid is present. Contains no corn, soy, yeast, wheat, sugar, starch, coloring agents, or artificial flavoring.

Available in 100- and 250-capsule bottles, 500 mg each.
