Folate is named for foliage. It was first extracted from spinach leaves, and it remains one of the few vitamins whose name still points to where it was found. The synthetic form, folic acid, is not what the body actually uses. Folic acid must be reduced through several enzymatic steps before it becomes L-methylfolate, the form that circulates in blood and crosses into cells.
That conversion is the whole reason this product exists. The final step depends on the MTHFR enzyme, and its efficiency varies considerably from person to person. L-methylfolate is the reduced, active form, and it requires no further metabolic steps to be used at the cellular level.
Folate is required for normal DNA synthesis and cell division, which is why demand is highest in tissues that replicate quickly. It also donates the methyl group that converts homocysteine back to methionine, supporting the maintenance of homocysteine levels already within the normal range, and it plays a role in the normal synthesis of neurotransmitters.
Each capsule supplies 2,125 mcg of (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolic acid as the stable glucosamine salt, equivalent to 1,250 mcg dietary folate equivalents. Free of common allergens.
100 capsules.
