Monolaurin is a monoglyceride of lauric acid, the twelve-carbon fatty acid that makes up nearly half of coconut oil and is also the most abundant fatty acid in human breast milk. The infant gut converts dietary lauric acid into monolaurin, and it is one of the constituents that gives early milk its protective character. As a supplement, monolaurin is used to support the body's normal, healthy immune defenses.
L-lysine is an essential amino acid, meaning the body cannot make it and must obtain it from food. It is required for normal collagen cross-linking and is a precursor to carnitine. Lysine and arginine compete for the same intestinal and cellular transporters, and lysine has long been taken on its own to support the normal balance between the two.
Laurisine pairs them, 200 mg of each per capsule. Neither compound is a nutrient in the classical deficiency sense, and neither is dosed here to correct a shortfall; they are combined because they have been used together in traditional practice as a support for the body's ordinary defenses. Hypoallergenic, with no diluents, binders, or fillers.
