In the 1950s, Japanese researchers noticed that people in garlic-eating regions seemed to hold onto thiamine better than the vitamin's known absorption limits should allow. The compound responsible turned out to be allithiamine — a thiamine molecule bound to a sulfur group from garlic, open-ring, fat-soluble, and able to cross membranes that ordinary thiamine cannot. TTFD (thiamine tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) is the synthetic descendant of that discovery.

Ordinary thiamine hydrochloride depends on saturable transporters in the gut; past a modest dose, more of it simply passes through. TTFD does not use those transporters. It diffuses across the membrane, sheds its disulfide bond inside the cell, and is reduced to free thiamine where the cell needs it. The form is the entire point.

Thiamine is the cofactor for pyruvate dehydrogenase and alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase — the gates into and through the citric acid cycle. Without it, carbohydrate cannot be fully oxidized for energy. It supports normal energy metabolism and normal nervous system function. Lipoic acid, at 7.5 mg, works alongside it in the same enzyme complexes.

Hypoallergenic, no diluents, binders, or fillers.
