Monolaurin

Monolaurin is a monoglyceride formed from lauric acid — the medium-chain fatty acid that makes up roughly half the fat in coconut oil, and which is also found in human breast milk, where it is understood to be one of the components supporting an infant's earliest immune defenses.

The body can form monolaurin from lauric acid on its own, but the conversion is inefficient. Supplementing supplies the finished compound directly. Monolaurin is lipid-soluble and interacts readily with lipid membranes; in nutritional practice it is used to support normal immune function, particularly through periods of seasonal or physiological stress.
