Ammonia is a normal byproduct of protein metabolism, produced continuously by the body and by the resident flora of the gut. Handling it is routine biochemistry: the liver converts it to urea, and glutamine synthetase binds it to glutamate to make glutamine, which carries nitrogen safely through the blood.
NH4 Redox works on both sides of that. Lactitol is a sugar alcohol derived from lactose that human enzymes do not digest; it passes into the colon intact, where the resident gut flora ferment it as an energy source and, in doing so, take up ammonia to build their own protein. The branched-chain amino acids — leucine, isoleucine, valine — supply the carbon skeletons that support normal glutamine synthesis from ammonia in muscle tissue.
Together they are used to support the body's normal nitrogen handling.
Ecological Formulas suggests beginning with one capsule twice daily with meals, adjusting under clinical guidance, and waiting two weeks before adding a probiotic. Free of yeast, wheat, soy, and egg. People with severe dairy sensitivity should note that lactitol is derived from lactose.
