Andrographis is called kalmegh in Ayurveda and, more bluntly, the King of Bitters. The name is not decorative — the leaf is among the most intensely bitter substances in the herbal materia medica, and the bitterness comes from andrographolide, the diterpene lactone that is the plant's signature compound. It has been used across South and Southeast Asia for centuries, and in the Scandinavian herbal tradition since the plant reached Europe.

Bitterness itself is functional. Bitter compounds stimulate the receptors that initiate normal digestive secretion, which is the traditional basis for using bitter herbs before food. Andrographolide is also a polyphenolic antioxidant and is used to support the body's normal immune function and normal inflammatory balance.

This is a 4:1 concentrated extract at 500 mg — four parts raw herb reduced to one part extract. Concentration is what makes the dose practical; the whole leaf at an equivalent strength would be difficult to swallow and considerably more bitter.

Hypoallergenic, made without diluents, binders, or fillers.
