Resveratrol is a polyphenol — one of the stilbenes, a class of molecules a plant manufactures when it is under stress. It is present in grape skin and in certain berries, but the richest known botanical source is the root of Japanese knotweed, Polygonum cuspidatum, and that is what Ecological Formulas uses here. Root rather than wine extract, because the root yields a more concentrated and more consistent compound.
