Tri Salts (Sodium-Free Buffered Mineral Carbonates)

The body defends its blood pH within a range so narrow — roughly 7.35 to 7.45 — that it maintains three separate buffering systems to do it. The fastest of them is the bicarbonate buffer, which absorbs excess hydrogen ions in the blood and exhales the result as carbon dioxide. It is why breathing rate and acid-base balance are linked.

Tri Salts supplies bicarbonate and carbonate salts of three minerals: calcium, magnesium, and potassium. What it deliberately omits is sodium — the mineral most buffering preparations lead with, and the one most people already get in excess. Sodium bicarbonate is cheap; this is not.

Each of the three cations does work of its own beyond the buffering. Potassium is the principal intracellular electrolyte. Magnesium is a cofactor in several hundred enzymatic reactions. Calcium, beyond bone, governs muscle contraction and nerve signaling. Supplying them as bicarbonates rather than as chlorides or oxides means the anion is contributing rather than merely riding along.
